There has been a fourth Star Trek film in the works for a while. Now, Zachary Quinto revealed there are currently three scripts being written.
We’ve known about a fourth Star Trek film for a while now, but it seems like everyone, even the stars of the film are unsure of what is going on.
After the success of the first two films (and the so-so third film Star Trek: Beyond), we now know more about the fate of the next movie — and it’s leaving us more confused than ever.
Zachary Quinto, better known as Spock, spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the interesting developments of Star Trek 4.
“First of all, I think there’s a couple of scripts because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film,” Quinto said, referring to the collaboration news about Quentin paring up with Abrams for the next movie.
“And so I think they are kind of developing more than one. So I don’t know what is going to happen. Quentin is off doing another movie. So, I feel like we are in a state of anticipation.”
Looks like the cast is just as confused as us about what’s going on.
Quinto went on to say, “All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who wrote the last film, are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
So, three scripts are in the works and no one is sure what is happening? While Quentin Tarantino becoming part of the Star Trek family sounds interesting, he usually has a very different style. He uses strong language and intense violence in most of his films. Will his style fit with Captain Kirk and Spock?
It’s also not clear if his version would be another reboot, which could mean an entirely new cast. That thought doesn’t make me happy, though, because Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto’s dynamic is perfect.
According to Paramount, Captian Kirk will meet with his father, George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth in the fourth film. So it does seem like they might be sticking with the original cast.
In addition, there is a Star Trek: The Next Generation alumn who feels the Quentin Tarantino version probably won’t happen.
Jonathan Frakes, who played William Riker said, “I’m fascinated by the possibility of this. I am not convinced that that’s going to be real, and I am not sure that Quentin’s gestalt is quite in the same wheelhouse of what we have all known Star Trek to be.”

Let’s just hope that whatever does happen sticks true to the story and brings back the greatness of the first movie.
