3 Hogwarts teachers we may see in Fantastic Beasts
By Callum Gunn
We’d all love to see the younger versions of some of our favorite Hogwarts teachers, but it’s some of the portraits on the walls that will likely jump out and come to life in the Fantastic Beasts movie series.
Fantastic Beasts may have been a chance to see a younger Albus Dumbledore, but don’t expect to see too many other familiar faces from Hogwarts in Harry Potter’s era. The prequel movies are set too early for the majority of them. Instead, you’ll want to turn your attention to the portraits on the wall.
Here’s a look at three Hogwarts teachers we may see in the Fantastic Beasts movies at some point.

Professor Galatea Merrythought
The Defense Against the Dark Arts position wasn’t always cursed. Between the late 1800s and 1945, Professor Galatea Merrythought held the position. She was the one that taught Tom Riddle some of the things he knew and helped to shape the highly sought after position. It’s an important position for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, since Albus Dumbledore is seen in the Defense Against the Dark Arts room during the trailer (rather than his Transfiguration classroom).
The year 1945 should stand out for a few reasons. The first is that this is around the time that the final movie will end. It’s also the time that Merrythought left her position. This cannot be a coincidence, so the story of her exit may just well be told.

Headmaster Armando Dippet
When Dumbledore was just a professor, Armando Dippet was the headmaster of the school. He was there from around 1926, which is around the time the first movie was set, since Newt travelled to America for the first time in December 1926.
Dippet wasn’t the best headmaster the school had seen, finding it hard to control his teachers. He also didn’t know much about the things going on in the school and was a fan of the young Tom Riddle. If Voldermort’s early beginnings will be covered, then there is a chance Dippet will eventually be seen.

Professor Horace Slughorn
The only character that you will have seen on the screen in Harry Potter that could likely appear in Fantastic Beasts is Professor Horace Slughorn. The Potions Master and later Head of Slytherin was at the school between 1931 and 1981, putting him in the center of the action during the rise and fall of Grindelwald.
Slughorn plays an important part in Voldemort learning about Horcruxes. As the first Horcrux is in 1943, there is a high chance that the younger version of the character will appear in the Fantastic Beasts movies.
