10. Captain America: The First Avenger

Most people have the first Captain America at the bottom of their list of favorite MCU films. But its warmth and heart carry it well, and the humor comes at a steady pace.

It’s less laugh-out-loud silly jokes and more reactions that subvert your expectations. Case in point: When the drill sergeant challenges his men to get the flag from the flag pole, none of them manage to climb it. And then you have tiny little Steve Rogers unlock the pole from its base and pick the flag up off the ground … and casually hop in the back of the Jeep to go back to camp.

Naivety also helps as well. Take the scene when Steve doesn’t know how to talk to Peggy in the backseat of the cab, calling her a “dame” and then backpedaling horribly (this after he points out all the alleys where he’s been beaten up). Or when he doesn’t know that fondue is just cheese and bread.

But it has its moments of laugh-out-loud humor. When Steve rescues Bucky from the clutches of Hydra and remarks that he thought Bucky was dead, Bucky responds, “I thought you were smaller.” Or when Peggy says he can’t give her orders, he replies, “The hell I can’t! I’m a captain!”

At least he didn’t lose his sense of humor in the transformation.
