Shadowhunters season 3 episode 2 preview: The Powers that Be

This week on Shadowhunters, we meet the new High Warlock of Brooklyn, and it looks like he’s walking into a mess. But he’s not the only one with problems.

There’s a new villainess on Shadowhunters this season, and she’s wasting no time in getting down to business.

After a season premiere filled with secrets and blood, her plan has officially been set into motion.

The official synopsis, thanks to Freeform:

"The Warlocks’ magic is becoming corrupted by a demonic presence while Izzy and Luke try to track down more information on the recent series of possessions."

Of course, we know that the “demonic presence” is Lilith. But, as of now, no one else knows that, which makes handling it a bit harder. Fortunately – or maybe unfortunately – that’s no longer Magnus Bane’s problem.

Looking out for the Warlock community is the duty of the new High Warlock of Brooklyn: Lorenzo Rey.

It looks like the transition in leadership is going to be a rocky one; he’s already threatening to banish Magnus in the episode promo. Rey seems to think Magnus is the one messing with the Warlocks’ magic by corrupting the ley lines in the city. (Remember, Lilith mentioned ley lines last week. They seem to be the key to everything so far.)

While the Warlocks handle the fallout of Lilith’s arrival on their end, the Shadowhunters must do the same. We learned in the premiere that she is recruiting “virtuous disciples,” and she’s moving quickly. Izzy and Luke is a pairing yet to be seen on the show, and it has interesting potential here as they investigate the possessions.

The real question is, will they be able to uncover Lilith’s role this early in the season?
