Black Lightning episode 9 preview: The Book of Little Black Lies

In the new episode of Black Lightning, tensions between Jefferson Pierce and Peter Gambi only worsen. Here’s the preview for “The Book of Little Black Lies.”

The latest episode of Black Lightning gave us all the answers we needed going into the final stretch of the season. “The Book of Revelations” explained how Gambi (real name Peter Esposito) ended up in Freeland and how the community changed after his arrival. It also explained how Black Lightning ended up with powers.

However, throughout the whole season, Black Lightning teased us with mentions of other metahumans.

In addition to Tobias Whale’s longevity and LaLa’s ability to talk to his tattoos, Jennifer finally accessed her own powers last week as well.

Moving forward, the synopsis for “The Book of Little Black Lies” makes no mentions of the ASA:

"In the aftermath of the latest killing, Black Lightning works to clear his name while also hunting down the person responsible for his father’s death, and anyone else involved. Tensions remain high between Black Lightning and Gambi."

According to Gambi, it seems like Black Lightning should be more worried about the ASA. The secret government organization will stop at nothing to cover their tracks, which puts Jefferson’s entire family in harm’s way.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool, we know the ASA’s background from the comics puts it in league with the Suicide Squad and the Outsiders.

"It is from the comics, a U.S. Government organization that put together a team of super-agents that they called Force of July."

The site also mentions that they would be the perfect opponents for the Pierce family if they choose to suit up together. Based on how Jennifer behaved in the past, it seems unlikely that she will be as enthusiastic a crime fighter as Anissa. But it’s more fun to watch the dad/daughter moments with Jefferson and the girls anyway. Plus, it would give her the sort of Violet Parr angle that The Incredibles 2 should be doing.

If you watch the extended promo below, it also seems like we will see more flashbacks to Gambi’s previous life. Although it will provide a clearer explanation to what happened, I’m not sure if I’d forgive Gambi easily.

Now, here’s the extended promo:
