Why was Captain Marvel cut from Avengers: Infinity War?
We now know Brie Larson filmed scenes as Captain Marvel for Avengers: Infinity War, but they won’t be in the final cut. So what will they be used for?
We’re getting a million characters in Avengers: Infinity War when it comes out at the end of April. It came to light earlier this week that yes, Brie Larson filmed scenes for Avengers: Infinity War as Carol Danvers.
But… they’ve been cut from the final version. We won’t be seeing any of them at the end of April.
That’s kind of a bummer, as we’re really excited to see Carol Danvers on the big screen. It’s interesting they’ve cut her scenes. What’s the reasoning behind the decision?
We have our theories…
ANAHEIM, CA – JULY 15: (L-R) Actors Sebastian Stan, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, and Chris Hemsworth, producer Kevin Feige, and actors Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, and Anthony Mackie of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR took part today in the Walt Disney Studios live action presentation at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2017 in Anaheim, Calif. Too many characters in the kitchen
Look, there are literally dozens of characters featured in this film. Why tarnish what Captain Marvel can be by shoehorning her in amidst a bunch of other heroes? That excitement won’t be the same.
It might honestly take away from her character if they just throw her into the mix. Will we still care about her history if we’ve already seen her in action and it’s underwhelming? Will we care about seeing her in action among the rest of the Avengers if we don’t really know her?
Marvel is smarter to keep her out of it and let her have her own spotlight.
They will actually use her scenes in the Captain Marvel film
We have been told that Captain Marvel will be an origin story a la Captain America: The First Avenger and take place in the 1990s. She supposedly disappears from the public eye for a while and resurfaces for Infinity War.
While she’s not necessarily doing time as a Capsicle, there’s a reason she’s not around. Would it be too out of the question if the climax of her movie (or just after) jumped forward to mid-action from Infinity War? Star-Lord flying around above her, Black Widow covering her, guns blazing.
This would be a way to tie her into the rest of the MCU that hasn’t really been done before, at least not in the flash-forward sense.
It will actually be used for a post-credit scene in Infinity War
Now, that technically doesn’t count as being in the film!
Granted, I doubt they’ll use all of the footage with Carol Danvers. But there’s some sort of one-minute snippet that is perfect for a mid or post-credits scene. Anything we see of her will get us excited for her film.
Maybe it’s a snippet of her talking to Nick Fury after all the action. Or a bonding moment with Captain America about feeling out of time or out of place.
