Set to break several world records, Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City is poised for greatness. Can it bring a new set of visitors to the theme park?

Silver Dollar City is set to open a world-record-breaking roller coaster, Time Traveler. While the traditional guest visits a theme park occasionally, roller coaster fans will travel for the next great thrill or to re-experience their favorite rides.

So the big question is: Will this roller coaster bring the roller coaster enthusiasts to the Branson, Missouri, theme park?

Silver Dollar City announced its new roller coaster for 2018back in November 2017 at the annual International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions conference in Orlando, Florida.

Time Traveler was designed to break several world records. While the announcement was met with much excitement, the prospect of Branson having such an acclaimed roller coaster seemed unlikely.

Branson is generally believed to be a family-friendly travel destination. From live shows to family-inclusive attractions, the area is generally an all-ages vacation city. It isn’t necessarily the location that thrill seekers are actively pursuing.

According to Silver Dollar City’s website, the new Time Traveler is set to break several world records. These records include:

"Fastest – Top speed of 50.3 miles per hour.Steepest – A 10-story, 90-degree vertical drop…straight down. Custom-engineered to have an immediate out-of-the-station, gravity-driven drop down an Ozarks mountainside.Tallest – Custom-designed for mountainous terrain with its tallest point at 100 feet.First & Only with Three Inversions – a Dive Loop, a Vertical Loop and a Zero-G Roll.First & Only with a Vertical Loop – A 95-foot tall loop.First and Only Double Launch – 0 to 47 mph in 3 seconds; 30 to 45 mph in 3.5 seconds."

This list of its world’s best distinctions is long. While other roller coasters might go faster, steeper or be more insane, the combination of all the components creates a huge thrill. Given that the roller coaster is built into the terrain adds to the thrill, the natural elements make the design both visually thrilling and adrenaline extreme.

Even more impressive is that the ride structure is age inclusive. As with many of the extreme roller coasters, height restrictions prevent smaller guests from getting to experience the ride. But for the Time Traveler coaster, the cart design allows the whole family — even slightly younger riders — to enjoy this extreme roller coaster experience. No one feels left out in this roller coaster experience.

While not considered a world-record feature, the roller coaster also spins around, adding a unique element to each ride. The fun effect can bring riders back time and again looking for a different experience.

Time Traveler should definitely bring roller coaster fans to Silver Dollar City. The inventive design and combination of features should make it a popular roller coaster thrill for fans. Any distinction as the “World’s Best” should bring guests to ride the roller coaster at least once. Whether they will come back again and again remains to be seen.
