Self-help books have become increasingly abundant. Some helpful, some full of ridiculous advice. I’ve found five self-help books that won’t have you rolling your eyes on every page.

Humanity’s curse is that we’re always trying to improve ourselves to be more popular, more healthy, more everything. From resume writing to cleaning your house to finding a way to meditate, we all know there’s got to be a better way for our brains and bodies to accomplish the goals we have.

Unfortunately, many self-help books repeat the same, tired advice that we’ve heard over and over again. Others may cause more harm than good.

Books like Kevin Trudeau’s Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You To Know About, sold by a man banned by the FTC from selling products on television, or Robert Greene’s men’s right activist handbook The 48 Laws Of Power are honestly closer to self-harm than self-help.

I found five self-help books that are actually helpful, taking into account the many differences in how each person approaches the world. Self-help is an individualized process, and hopefully one of these books can help you with a journey you are on.
