Grace and Frankie (Netflix)

When you put Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda together in a show, you know it’s going to be a hit, and probably hilarious. That’s exactly what Grace and Frankie is. The fourth season recently made its way to Netflix, and it’s still going strong.

Grace and Frankie, are thrown into a whirlwind when their husbands (who are longtime business partners) announce that they’re gay and in love. The two lead women both escape to their families’ shared beach house and become unconventional roommates, because the two women could not be more different.

What sets this show apart from most other coming out stories is that it focuses on men who come out of the closet much later in life. Sol and Robert have to develop new gay identities, adapt to leaving their wives and being open with their sexuality for the first time in their lives, and also deal with the strange new experience of retirement.

It’s heartwarming to see two older gay men having experiences that most people have in their teens. The way Grace and Frankie are so open with their own sex lives is so unheard of in the media’s portrayal of older women.

You and your mom will probably love how outrageous these gals are — but maybe don’t watch it with them, unless you’re cool talking about vibrators. If that’s a yes, go right ahead.
