15 TV shows LGBTQ people should binge in 2018
The Gay and Wondrous Life Of Caleb Gallo (YouTube)
The Gay and Wondrous Life Of Caleb Gallo may be a webshow, but it’s probably one of the weirdest, best shows on this list. Yeah, I went there.
Brian Jordan Alvarez is the director, writer, producer, and star of Caleb Gallo, which premiered online in 2016. There really isn’t much of a premise, other than being about a group of friends living in LA with varying levels of fluid sexuality.
The dialogue is fast-paced, the characters are zany, and at any given time you may have no idea what’s going on. Honestly, that’s probably why it’s so great.
There’s no doubt that the true star of the show is Freckle. Played by Jason Greene, Freckle is the lovingly outrageous, seemingly always drunk, gender fluid friend of Caleb Gallo. She gets all the best lines, most of which became instant memes — “Sometimes… things that are more expensive… are worse.”
Freckle demands attention and throws her sexuality around like it’s no big deal. Considering you don’t often see gender fluid characters in TV shows, it actually is a pretty big deal. While it may be only a webshow, it’s a start. In today’s fast-paced tech world, a show on the Internet is just as valid as any other, and that’s why you need to watch Caleb Gallo.
Additionally, supporting queer indie content on the Internet is what will help expand that type of content into the mainstream. Episodes range from 10 to 22 minutes, and are available on YouTube. So you really have no excuse not to watch this one.
