We shouldn’t idolize someone just because they were in Harry Potter

Maybe we need to take a step back and realize that just because they were in Harry Potter, doesn’t mean everyone associated with the series is great.

Here is the part of being a fan of the Harry Potter series: We tend to idolize anyone who has anything to do with it. Whether it is as a writer or actor or director, we tend to praise them because they’re part of something we’ve loved since we were children.

And I think it is time we stop. Not in the sense that we scrutinize everything that anyone associated with the series does but I think we need to stop giving passes to people just because they played a character we relate to.

This goes with other series as well but I think that this series, it tends to happen a lot more frequently. Mainly because we grew up with these actors or Rowling, herself, and we don’t want to say goodbye to them because they’re deemed ‘problematic’ by Tumblr’s standards.

I do think that there is a fine line between outlawing someone and praising them despite their bad actions. I think we can find a middle ground with our favorite people associated with Harry Potter and hold them accountable while also making sure that they are not being trashed for meaningless things.

Basically, I’m just saying we need to hold our childhood heroes to the same standards we are everyone else. Lucky for us, most of the people associated with the Harry Potter series are amazing so we don’t have to worry too much.

But if it ever comes to pass, I know that these fans won’t people get away with stuff. Harry and his friends taught us too well what bad people are capable of.
