Darrin and Samantha Stevens — Bewitched
As one of the first inter-species couples on TV, these two were mismatched all along. Darrin, the mortal total dud, was constantly trying to stifle his beautiful, magical wife Samantha, forcing her to be some vanilla housewife. He constantly pouted about her witchy powers, and it was often the source of drama among them.
I’m not the only one who thinks their marriage was ill-advised. Just ask Samantha’s mother, the grand supreme queen witch, Endora. (Full disclosure: I made up all those adjectives for her, but she deserves them all.) You could visibly see her annoyance every time her dolt of a son-in-law was around. To aggravate his uptight sensibilities, she even purposefully called him Derwood.
Samantha was a much more understanding and empathetic wife than Darrin ever was a husband. She desperately tried to make him happy, never using magic or her powers, but the harder she tried to deny them, the worse it became. There was a steady stream of supernatural characters through the house, and you could tell Samantha loved it, except when she had to deal with Darren’s subsequent hissy fits.
The two would have been much happier if they could have found a respective mate that was a little more similar. Darren needed a dull and obedient wife that would do his bidding and iron his clothes. Samantha needed a dashing young warlock that was interested in her talents, her powerful experiences and her amazing abilities. Neither of them got this.
