Was Voldemort the most powerful wizard in the Harry Potter series?

Have you ever stopped to think about Voldemort’s power and what it truly meant? Well, here’s a question: Is he really the most powerful wizard?

Harry defeated Voldemort, I think that spoiler is safe to reveal. At the end of the series, Harry Potter and his friends came out victorious. But the question I want to pose is this: Did Harry defeat him only because he was a part of him?

Now we know in that last battle that it was all Harry but he had to defeat all of the Horcruxes before he could get there. So, in theory, Voldemort was responsible for his own downfall. At the end of the day though, it was Harry who defeated him but I just can’t shake the fact that the series kind of points to the truth that Voldemort was the most powerful wizard alive.

Or was it just because, at the end, he possessed the his full power that Harry was able to defeat Voldemort? I guess a lot of that is up for interpretation by us but still, I’d like to know what J.K Rowling thinks. It is such an interesting dynamic since Dumbledore was seen as being the most powerful and feared by even Voldemort to Harry defeating him in the end.

Now I know that there are unanswered questions throughout the entire series, that’s the point of interpretation. We’re meant to try and figure it out ourselves but then again that also leads to us theorizing things that could potentially change the narrative laid out for us.

Who knows, maybe there will be a new addition to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child answering this question or we’ll forever be in the dark. Either way, I’m going to pretend like Harry Potter is the most powerful wizard around.
