Will the unknown actor trend continue in the Harry Potter series?

Harry Potter is known for having an influx of both treasured English actors and unknown stars. And it seems like that tradition hasn’t really stopped with the Fantastic Beasts series.

When it came to the original Harry Potter series, the cast was pretty crazy. With the kids all being unknowns, they seemingly were relying on the few famous people they do have to carry the cast. And it seems like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is doing that to a degree. Or at least with a few characters.

Before the movie came out, Katherine Waterston wasn’t exactly a household name. Same with Alison Sudol and Dan Fogel. Now, however, that is a different story. I think the series does a great job of bringing in new talent but also relying on famous names to bring characters to life.

I do think that they could start to branch out more and get more unknowns into the series since it is, after all, Harry Potter. With Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, it was different. We were just learning about the series and all the characters.

Now though, we’re well aware of who these characters are or the story they’re getting ready to lay down for us. So do we really need a bunch of famous people portraying the characters? No, not really. I think it is an incredible opportunity to bring new talent to the limelight and focus on unknown actors with great talent rather than bringing in people with established careers.

Obviously the way the first Fantastic Beasts was done is perfect and I hope the casting trend continues that way in the future films of the franchise.
