Taylor Swift Song of the Week: “Begin Again”
By Kara Johnson
Take a deep breath in the mirror and prepare yourself for a song filled with raw vulnerability and nervousness. “Begin Again” may be the closing track to RED but it’s filled with a sweet beginning.
“Begin Again” is a beautiful closer that brings Swift back to her country roots. After listening to an album of love lost and emotions that were red, the songstress brings us full circle as we here the beginning of something new. We suppose love doesn’t always break, burn and end because “Begin Again” showcases the beginning stages of love at its finest.
"“Begin Again” is about when you’ve gotten through a really bad relationship and you finally dust yourself off and go on that first date after a horrible breakup, and the vulnerability that goes along with all that”- Taylor Swift"
It’s a reminiscent track that takes us back to “Safe and Sound” from the Hunger Games Soundtrack. Her vocals are breathy and beautiful and it just shows that even after the most tumultuous period, new beginnings will spring up and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
“Begin Again” was Swift’s second single from RED and has come to be a very successful feat. It was the only song to dethrone Psy’s “Gangnam Style” and shot to No.1 on the iTunes charts, as well as the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart. As a result of its success, the song debuted at No.7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold well over a million copies in the U.S. as of November 2017.
