3 things we want to see happen in Mission Impossible 6: Fallout

More than one woman on the team

The fun thing about the entire Mission Impossible franchise is that everyone has their role, and with the exception of Tom Cruise, everyone is equal. Man or woman, spy or tech nerd, everyone contributes for the sake of the greater good. If you have good aim and a strong sense of justice, Ethan Hunt can use you.

Unfortunately, the franchise only ever puts one woman on the team, and most often, she works against Ethan or acts as his love interest. In the three most recent films, we saw some really awesome women take center* stage, including Maggie Q, Keri Russell, Paula Patton and Rebecca Ferguson.

*Okay, not nearly center stage, but I enjoyed them nonetheless.

To enjoy a Tom Cruise movie, you have to really accept that it’s a Tom Cruise movie. For example, anyone who saw The Mummy should’ve been able to see the ending’s twist from a mile away. If you look at his freshly minted Instagram bio, it reads, “Running in movies since 1981.” What he means by that is that he runs his movies. He serves as producer on many of them, and he displays a tremendous work ethic.

Obviously, none of that should translate to only having one female role. If Simon Pegg, Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames can carry over from movie to movie, then why does the woman get replaced in every film?

Mission Impossible: Fallout could prove to be a different film since it will feature the return of Ethan’s ex-wife (Michelle Monaghan) and added Angela Bassett. But if we have to watch some sort of decrepit love triangle between Monaghan, Cruise and Ferguson, I’ll be really disappointed.
