The conversation at King’s Cross

While the ending of Deathly Hallows Part 2 veered away from the novels, Harry’s conversation with Dumbledore at King’s Cross remains essentially intact. In the books, Harry wakes alone in King’s Cross Station after Voldemort hits him with the Killing Curse. He then comes across a hideous, infantile creature that appears to be dying — presumably, the part of himself that was a Horcrux.

The film keeps these details, and it also keepshis meeting with Albus Dumbledore. When Dumbledore appears at King’s Cross, he praises Harry for being brave and doing what needed to be done. They discuss basically the same things they do in the Deathly Hallows novel, and Dumbledore even drops some of his famous quotes.

The scene comes to an end with Dumbledore’s “Why on Earth should that mean it isn’t real?” line. Then he leaves Harry to decide whether he’d like to take the train and go “on” or return and help his friends defeat Voldemort once and for all. I’m sure you know what Harry chooses.
