Grace and Frankie

The premise: Grace and Frankie are long-time friends, connected by their husbands who are partners in a law firm. After over 40 years of marriage, the husbands decide to come out of the closet, and declare their love for each other. Grace and Frankie, played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin respectively, have to figure out their lives without their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston). Although the ladies don’t necessarily have an initial love for each other, they are connected by their shared experience with their husbands.

Why it’s so good: Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. These women prove there is absolutely no expiration date on beauty, class or intelligence, and they are infinitely magical and wonderful. Their characters aren’t always likable or friendly, and they get on audience’s nerves almost as much as they do each other’s. But we go all in.

It’s also a pretty unique premise. There are far too shows on currently that feature female leads, and there are far less about women over 40, much less over 60. This show looks at the lives of two very different women, and illustrates that our lives (as women) are still interesting and remarkable outside the bubble of their husbands and children.

How to watch: Grace and Frankie is a Netflix original, and you can watch all three seasons on Netflix. The fourth season premieres in January 2018.
