25 feel-good shows to start 2018 off right
By Sundi Rose
I’m Sorry
The premise: This show is simply about a family. The mother is a working comedy writer who has a down to earth, practical approach to being a wife and mom. Played by funny lady, Andrea Savage, her character of the same name is like the mom who never got the memo about what being a “normal” mom is all about. She curses, writes dirty jokes, get drunk and rebels against the other over-achieving moms in her daughter’s school. Her husband (Tom Everett Scott) is long-suffering, but not defeated, and the two hilariously live their life just as authentically and honestly as they please.
Why it’s so good: It’s so real. Andrea is all of us who have grown tired of trying to perform inside the paradigms associated with being a mother. It feels like this show is finally bucking the idea of June Cleaver and Donna Reed, and Andrea is the antithesis of what these other characters have come to symbolize. She is my mom inspiration, and I want to be just like her, jokes and all.
It’s also very sharply written. Andrea Savage is a notoriously outspoken writer and contributor, and her humor resonates with women of all sorts of background. She is part of the new clique of female writers that prove you can be smart, beautiful and funny, and never have to apologize for being any of those things.
