4. Harry and Ginny’s First Kiss

We all know that Ginny’s character was full on assassinated in the Harry Potter movies, to the point where a whole fandom has mixed feelings towards her, its memories of her marred by lukewarm mince pie feeding and awkward dress zipping.

But Ginny is, to use a cliché, an absolute firecracker. The girl who once told Harry “anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve” would sooner shove a pie in his face than sensually feed it to him.

It’s fitting that their first kiss in the books is in the heat of the moment after a Gryffindor Quidditch victory. Both are excellent and fervent Quidditch players and the kiss is as passionate and impulsive they are. It’s a very Gryffindor kiss.

If you only watched the film, however, you’ll think that Harry and Ginny’s first kiss is the complete opposite. It happens secretly in the Room of Requirement, a place where clunky dialogue (and Crabbe) goes to die.

Harry closes his eyes so he won’t know where Ginny has hidden the Half-Blood Prince’s potion book (also meaning that he can’t see Ravenclaw’s diadem that he needs to find in the next film, but okay) and Ginny seizes her moment. Her face floats into frame and they kiss.

Nearly Headless Nick’s deathday party has more life in it, to be perfectly honest.

It’s not Daniel Radcliffe or Bonnie Wright’s fault. The lack of passion seems to be a stage direction in the script, given the cringy lines and the way Ginny glides on and off screen like like she’s on wheels. Accio smooch!

If only they could summon a little more romance.
