The 10 best video games you should have played in 2017
Yooka-Laylee
This may seem an odd choice for a list of top games to play from 2017, but just hear me out.
Yooka-Laylee takes you back to your childhood. Those Saturday nights when Mom and Dad drove you to the nearest Blockbuster to rent a video game of your choice, and this was always your go-to. If your go-to game was either Banjo-Kazooie or any iteration of Donkey Kong, then Yooka-Laylee is the throwback game for you.
Developed by a group of key personnel from Rare, this game takes you through multiple worlds as you collect Pagies (the main currency) and collect quills to unlock new moves for your characters (a chameleon and a bat). The moment the game starts, it honestly feels like you’re playing Banjo-Kazooie.
Reviews of the game itself are very mixed, leaning towards more positive. But you have to remember: this game started as a Kickstarter. And it made its goal in its first 38 minutes. It really does take you back to the days when you would play Donkey Kong 64 and waste hours.
It’s not necessarily a hard game, but if you’re in it for the nostalgia factor, give this one a chance.
