The 10 best video games you should have played in 2017
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the main contenders for Game of the Year. And rightly so. Everything about this game … I’m just speechless. Let’s try to put this into actual words.
This game is nothing short of breathtakingly gorgeous. The setting takes place in the 31st century (no relation to Futurama) with humans having gone back to primitive tribes and machines now dominate the Earth. Its visuals are a perfect blend of natural beauty and dinosaur machines. Honestly, you would think this wouldn’t work, but it does. And well.
This is another open-world game (there are a few on our list) you can explore at your leisure. On average, the main story takes about 22 hours to complete. Throw in extras and you’re looking at almost 42 hours. Gameplay itself is incredibly fluid and natural. While the conversation can feel forced or dry at times, that doesn’t detract from the game being excellent as a whole.
Plus the main character, Aloy, is voiced by Ashly Burch, of Hey Ash Whatcha Playin’ Youtube fame (if you’re unfamiliar, please go watch this), and that is all kinds of wonderful. Her voice work is acclaimed by all the reviews; Aloy grows and matures throughout the game and Burch’s performance helps you really feel that.
