Betty is the ultimate Cover Girl — Riverdale

Okay, okay, don’t at me. I know this is a shameless plug for a product and brand that is actively paying Riverdale’s bills, but just hear me out. Yes, Covergirl’s presence in Riverdale is obvious and a little gross, but it tracks. Just think about it. Is there really another character that is more likely to use Covergirl products than Betty Cooper? No way.

Behind the scenes, the company has struck a deal with The CW network to not only work the products into the storyline of the show, but also to feature an off-air connection through short tutorial videos and a strong social media presence. I never said it wasn’t shady, but it’s also a downright genius matchup.

The town with pep is filled with lots of pretty women, supposedly living an average, middle-class life, but with aspirations of living their best self. Any self-respecting woman has used a Covergirl product, and linking it with girl-next-door Betty tracks in a real and believable way. Betty could be a Covergirl, for heaven’s sake, and she pretty much just sums up the brand in a nutshell.

The other characters are going pretty heavy on the makeup brand as well. Just take one look at Cheryl’s red lip, and you know she has to work on that. Between Betty’s perky ponytail, Veronica’s smoldering eye, and Cheryl’s peaches and cream complexion, this is a show born to partner with a makeup company. And why shouldn’t it be the most all-American brand out there?
