Dre in head to toe Givenchy — Black-ish

In a recent episode of Black-ish, we get a peek into just how much of a clothes addict Dre really is. In “Charity Case,” Dre decides to give back in a more personal way, and donates his (designer) clothes to a homeless man. Now wearing all Dre’s expensive clothes, he kinda looks like him, and the homeless man is mistaken for Dre quite a bit.

During all the talk about charity and good will, we learn that Dre is pretty serious about his wardrobe, and we learn that most of his clothes are from pretty swanky designers, especially Givenchy. Apparently he often likes to be in head-to-toe Givenchy. The jacket alone can run up to two grand, and that doesn’t even factor in the pants and shirt. That’s some real dedication to a brand, not to mention the financial commitment to it.

Fans of the show know that Dre is pretty vain. We know he has a real weakness for sneakers and has more pairs than we can count. He likes to look good in all matters of dress and personal grooming, but this revelation about his penchant for high end designers is a relatively new development.

All this talk of expensive clothes is just a means to an end. The moral of the episode is about giving back, not letting material things dominate your worth, gratitude for what you have. The point might not have been so easily made if Dre was into $7 Hanes tee shirts.
