Carrie and her Manolos — Sex and the City

This is one of the most iconic character/brand pairing in the history of television, and it’s hard to think of one without the other. I’m pretty sure there were Manolo Blahnik shoes long before there ever was a Sex and the City TV show, but none of us would’ve known.

If it weren’t for Carrie Bradshaw and her very impractical addiction to expensive shoes, most of us wouldn’t have a clue what a Manolo was. And we certainly wouldn’t even consider spending more than a thousand dollars on just one pair. I mean, it’s not like any of us could ever afford such an insane waste of money, but I’m pretty sure audiences fantasized about having their very own pair of in their closet.

The connection between the character and this particular brand is strong, and writers cultivated it through out the entire series, even into the movie franchise. Carrie constantly references the shoe maker with reverent honor, and the shoes are there with in some of her biggest moments. They are her birthday date, when she worries about being alone on her 35th. They were in the Vogue closet when she got her big break, and Big used a pair of Manolos to propose to her in the dream closet. They are a pretty big part of her life, and I can see why.

I can’t really see spending that much money on any one pair of shoes, but I can see how they make her feel, and you have to appreciate anything that makes you feel like the prettiest girl in the room.
