Hamilton releases a new digital Ham4Ham to celebrate opening in London
After waiting more than two years to see the musical in the flesh, London is finally welcoming Hamilton into the West End tonight.
To mark the official occasion, show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and the London cast recorded their own special digital Ham4Ham. And blimey, it’s brilliant!
Since it is the British opening night, the Ham4Ham features the band and cast members performing mash-ups of Hamilton songs and famous British tunes, ranging from The Beatles to the Spice Girls. They are led by the newest Schuyler sister trio — Rachel Johns, Rachelle Ann-Go and Christine Allado — which seems fitting. We always knew the Schuyler sisters had girl power!
The video was recorded in the show’s new home at the Victoria Palace theatre in just one take by Mike Karns, Hamilton’s “social media man,” according to Miranda’s Twitter.
It contains at least two references to the UK version of The Office (the original version of The Office, lest we forget), and listen closely to hear Lin’s exemplary British accent. We reckon we’ll be hearing more of it soon enough, when Mary Poppins Returns hits cinemas in December 2018.
For now, we’ve got this little taste of London-based joy. We can assure you it holds up to multiple viewings. The entire London cast is insanely talented — as you’d expect — and we’re thankful for them taking their time to give us a little preview of what they’ve got going on. There’s no doubt in our minds that each and every one of them will smash it.
