Taylor Swift Throwback Thursday: “Back To December” Music Video
By Kara Johnson
“Back To December” was written entirely by Taylor Swift herself and the music video beautifully captures the story in perfect Swift fashion.
The music video for “Back To December” is emotional and raw just like the song. We see Swift in a bathtub, wondering what would’ve become of a broken relationship as it begins to snow in her home. The symbolism is brilliant, allowing the video to speak for itself.
“Back To December” was directed by Yoann Lemoine. The video was filmed in late December of 2010 before Christmas day, making sure it would capture the storyline in the best way. Without hesitation or stumbling blocks, the music video hit thousands of views in its first week and has now reached over 178 million views and became Swift’s fifth Vevo certified video. It debuted on CMT on January 13, 2011.
It’s a heartbreaking story about the aftermaths of a relationship, but all in all, it’s Swift’s apology letter. This proves evident as the love interest in the video is shown at the end reading the apology letter she had written. Swift is a master at perfectly portraying a story through music videos, and “Back to December” is no exception.
It still remains a fan favorite and will certainly go down in history as one of the best in Swift’s career. You can watch the music video below and let us know your thoughts about why you love the video by sounding off in the comment section below. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
