Mark Hamill is opening up about his favorite memories about Carrie Fisher, like hanging out with their dogs on the Star Wars set.
While we’re all excited for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s still bittersweet to see the movie without Carrie Fisher around. Her absence has truly been felt. Luckily, her co-stars like Mark Hamill are keeping her memory alive by talking about all the good times he had with her … and their dogs.
Hamill and Fisher were extremely close. He’s often said that Fisher was like a sister to him. “She was irreplaceable, so in a way it’s like a loss in the family but the entire world is sharing it with me,” Hamill told News Breakfast.
Hamill explained that Fisher used to joke around and became a “whacky aunty” to the Star Wars family. “You know, she was like a sister in the sense that you loved her but she was exasperating and she drove you crazy,” he explained.
One of Hamill’s favorite memories, though, is that he and Fisher would love to just hang out on set with their dogs. “Any moment where we weren’t working I was in her trailer with Gary her dog and my dog Millie,” Hamill revealed.
And Gary Fisher and Mille Hamill were total BFFs. “Gary looks like he’d be the very aggressive dog. come right into Carrie’s trailer and go right over to his bowl. Now, that – that’s fightin’ behavior. And he’d back off. He wouldn’t growl,” Hamill told Vanity Fair.
Both Gary and Millie have been on Star Wars sets and events for years. But Gary has become a celebrity in his own right. Fisher would rarely go anywhere without her emotional support French Bulldog. And he was always the center of attention with his tongue sticking out.
At first Gary went to live with Billie Lourd after Fisher’s tragic death. He’s now living with Fisher’s former personal assistant Corby McCoin. But he’s never far from his Star Wars family.

In fact, Gary has a small cameo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi! He can be seen in the background while Finn and Rose appear to have a tense argument. It’s absolutely adorable. And there really couldn’t be a more fitting tribute to Fisher in the Star Wars franchise than to have her best friend Gary make an appearance.
