We all know that Portkeys are supposed to be junk, but in 2018 the rules will be loosened to include cell phones through mobile games for Harry Potter fans.

We all know that Portkeys are supposed to be junk that no one would touch, but in 2018 the Ministry of Magic (aka Warner Brothers) is allowing a new item to become a transportation – your phone, through some mobile games.

Muggles and squibs like ourselves will be able to choose two different paths through the wizarding world.

Jam City, formerly known as SGN Games, announced Tuesday that they will be creating Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. This game is expected to allow players to create their own character to take all of their favorite magical classes and explore the world of Hogwarts.

Jam City is partnering with Warner Brothers to create the aptly named Portkey Games, to create games based on the wizarding world that so many of us fell in love with. Other games they’ve created include two Family Guy games, a Futurama game, a Book of Life game, and several Candy Crush-style games.

It will be interesting to see how their game matches up to the world we all love. Even if its original creator can be problematic, as she has recently come under fire for her response to the ongoing controversy with Johnny Depp retaining his role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, up to and including a response from Amber Heard.

Meanwhile, Niantic, the virtual reality company that brought us Pokémon Go, announced in November that they would be bringing Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to phones next year.

“Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies,” their blog post says.

Both Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery should be available for all phones through their respective app stores. There is no word of a release date on either website.
