St. Augustine Lights

St. Augustine, Florida is the nation’s oldest city. While some people head to the East coast city in search of the Fountain of Youth, the holidays are an illuminating experience in this Florida city. The annual St. Augustine Lights celebration is a favorite Florida holiday event. Previously named one of the best light displays in the nation by National Geographic, this gigantic light display consists of millions of lights.

The annual holiday light display transforms the entire city. With millions of lights and holiday displays, it can be difficult to enjoy the festivities in a single evening. For the first time visitor, it is best to focus on a single area or location. This option can make the event less overwhelming.

Downtown St. Augustine offers a lovely celebration of the holidays. In the Plaza de la Constitucion, the town Christmas tree stands. This tree sparkles with 3 million tiny white lights. While it would seem almost blinding, the twinkle from all those lights is quite beautiful.

Throughout the downtown area, the holiday spirit is strong. During the season, there are many events. From the historic home tours to the annual Christmas parade, there are events for everyone in the family.

To see as many lights as possible, a holiday trolley tour is a great option. Old Town Trolley’s Famous Nights of Lights Tour or the Ripley’s Red Train both offer holiday lights tours. For the romantics, carriage rides are also available.

Don’t miss this illuminating Florida holiday event. The St. Augustine Lights are a spectacle to behold. Plus, without the brutal winter chill, walking through this winter wonderland is quite enjoyable.
