The end of Mr. Robot season 3 draws near, as Elliot tries to set up what is sure to be an eventful meeting with Whiterose.

The end of Mr. Robot season 3 is almost upon us. This seems kind of crazy, given how much it still feels like needs to happen this year. But, yet, here we are. (Translation: I probably need to start getting right with the fact that some of the stuff will carry over into season 4.)

Last week’s surprisingly hopeful installment saw Elliot make a new friend, reconnect with an old one and decide he still had something to fight for. But moreover, “eps3.7_dont-delete-me.ko” gave him a new purpose, thanks to an email Trenton had set to send to someone she trusted after her death. Her message promised Elliot that there is a way to undo the original hack that set all of this in motion, and came with what looked like instructions on how to proceed.

Whether her idea is possible — or even what it is, precisely — has yet to be determined. But the chance to atone appears to have galvanized Elliot, setting him up in direct opposition to the Dark Army. What that means for the rest of the season is unclear. But given how many surprises season 3 has already offered, it

The official synopsis for the next episode is predictably vague:

"elliot trolls a former ally. mr. robot leaves cryptic txt. tyrell gets new cmds. tbh darlene’s plan is next level risky biz."

However, it does provide us with a few clues. Or, at least, an area from which to make some educated guesses. After his receipt of Trenton’s email last week, we have to assume that Elliot will be looking for a way to fight back against Whiterose and the Dark Army. That’s probably the “former ally” mentioned above. Is Mr. Robot involved in this plan? It certainly seems likely now that he’s learned of their betrayal.

The episode trailer also offers further hints about what’s coming.

It looks as though Tyrell’s officially out of jail, though clearly still being blackmailed by Irving or some similar Dark Army operative. After all, they were the ones that instructed him to blame Trenton and Mobley for the E-Corp attacks. It seems pretty natural that they’d be looking to use him further. Will Tyrell ever find out where his son is? As for Darlene, she’s been largely out of the picture for the past few weeks, but her brief interaction with Dom in the trailer indicates that not only has her cover survived her confession to Elliot, but that the FBI still wants something from her. What could they possibly want now that they have Tyrell? Is Dom looking to get Elliot too, or to use Darlene for any information she might have on the Dark Army?

Much of Mr. Robot  at the moment feels a bit like it’s shuffling the pieces around to prepare for the finale. Elliot — theoretically — has a workable method to undo the 5/9 hack. Mr. Robot is maybe not as much of an enemy as we once thought. Angela seems to have finally broken through the numb haze that surrounded her after the E-Corp attacks. And Dom seems as convinced as ever that Whiterose is the source behind everything, even if she can’t prove it just yet.

In short: I have no idea where we’re going in these last two episodes, which is both terrifying and exciting. We’ll have to wait and see.
