Episode 2: “Bouncy, Bouncy, Bouncy…”

This is the first time we’re going to talk about Declan Harp’s old friend, McTaggart, but it is certainly not the last. In episode 2, “Wanted,” which quotes Ice T. for reference before it opens the episode, after Declan rescues Charleston, a slave, the Virginian who calls him his “property” goes off and returns with several redcoats.

This is, of course, a problem for Declan, Charlie (who likes going by that, we learn later) and McTaggart, as they find themselves outnumbered and with threats to burn the building down, except for the part where it’s not a problem. Instead, with a little trickery, the three of them end up subduing the soldiers, although the Virginian escapes.

But, and here’s the problem, McTaggart is completely (and we do mean completely) off his rocker. So much so that when he kills one of the soldiers, he actually starts jumping up and down on the corpse, saying “bouncy, bouncy, bouncy…” He repeats it over and over again until Declan gets his attention.

Just in case you weren’t sure that McTaggart is both the comic relief and the absolutely most ridiculous character of the season (in the sense that you never know what’s he’s going to do or say next).

Honorable mention: Sokanon kisses Michael! And Michael kisses back. Apparently, that’s where we’re going with pairings, considering Grace and Declan continue to have feelings — she marries Chesterfield to save him, after all. It’s just an odd way to end the episode.
