The Last Jedi: 15 things we know about the new Star Wars movie
1. Expect the unexpected
At this point, with two weeks to go, what we don’t know still far exceeds what we do. Johnson warned in August, as a fan of Star Wars rather than its director, to avoid any marketing, but those of us who have pored over each and every news story can tell you very little has been given away. The only thing we can count on at this point is that there are lots of surprises in store.
It’s a blessing to hear that we’re going to be shocked. Very few things are able to do that for its audience these days and Star Wars seems to be one of the few franchises that can keep us on our toes whilst remaining spoiler-free.
So whilst we come up with theories upon theories, it’s sort of a relief to know we’re probably all wrong.
Daisy Ridley told ABC News that Johnson has written a story that is “unexpected but right”, whilst in a more recent interview with Good Morning America, she said that she had been more surprised watching The Last Jedi than she had been when she saw The Force Awakens.
Put that fact together with the fact that Johnson said both Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill put their trust in him, despite a plot that they didn’t originally expect — well, it speaks volumes.
And if this weren’t enough to help you sleep at night, Johnson has a few choice words for you. When asked by a Twitter user to describe the film in three words, he replied enigmatically, “Intense. Fun. Star Wars-ian-ish.”
