The Last Jedi: 15 things we know about the new Star Wars movie
3. There will be lots of cameos to look out for (but one we’ll miss)
Perhaps what Adam Driver actually meant when he spoke of a “princess in disguise” was “princes in disguise”, because The Last Jedi is definitely going to have two of those.
Princes William and Harry visited the set in April 2016, and like most of us, were unable to resist the lure of cosplay. John Boyega confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the two royals donned stormtrooper suits and share a scene with him in the film.
They are joined by British pop star Gary Barlow and The Revenant’s Tom Hardy, who also play stormtroopers, and The Hollywood Reporter suggests that all four will be in the same scene together, guarding Finn in an elevator.
With Johnson clearly trying to top the surprise cameo from Daniel Craig in The Force Awakens, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards will also make an appearance. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who previously worked with Johnson on Looper, will have a voice cameo as an alien.
One person who won’t be turning up this time around though is Lando Calrissian.
“No, and I don’t want fans to get their hopes up,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s not in the film and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.”
Although we’re sad we’re not going to see the scoundrel with the strong cape game this time around, it’s at least good that we won’t have to put up with a shoehorned cameo at the expense of his character.
Looks like the next we’ll see of Lando will be in Solo: a Star Wars Story, when he’ll be played by Donald Glover.
