4. There will be time to mourn Han Solo
Not to be dramatic but we’re pretty sure Han Solo’s absence in The Last Jedi is going to cleave our hearts in two.
No, we’re still not over it and we’re still not sure if we can ever forgive Kylo Ren for murdering his father.
But Johnson has at least promised us that we will be given time to mourn Han and that he won’t be forgotten. Although don’t hold out any hopes for his Force Ghost just yet.
“Han, the ghost of — well, not literally,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t want to misguide. I have to be very careful with my words here. But a figurative ghost of Han had to be present throughout this entire film.”
We can assume at least Leia will be grieving his loss, and EW has suggested that Han’s best friend Chewbacca will be more volatile as a result of his friend’s murder. But Johnson says that Chewie’s mission with Rey will serve as a great distraction from his pain.
Rey will be feeling the effects too. Han’s death will contribute to the relationship between Rey and Kylo. Even when they first properly meet in The Force Awakens, Kylo realizes that Rey sees Han as a father figure and his murder at his son’s hand has only intensified her hate for the First Order leader.
“She just doesn’t understand Kylo,” Daisy Ridley says. “When all she wanted was parents, why would a person who has parents do that? It’s so beyond comprehension, it’s ridiculous. So she has grief for the loss and then there’s anger. To be honest, she couldn’t understand doing something like that – let alone to your parents.”
Same, Rey. Let alone to Han Solo.
