Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns for its fifth season! We’ve got the synopsis and the first 17 minutes of its premiere. Let’s go to space!

Rejoice! Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is back! We made it through Inhumans!

Our SHIELD compatriots return to action this week after a lengthier than normal hiatus. I’m surprised it didn’t feel longer than it was, as that post-credits stinger of Coulson in space was quite a doozy.

Here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of ABC:

"Coulson and the team find themselves stranded on a mysterious ship in outer space, and that’s just the beginning of the nightmare to come."

And if that’s not enough to sate you until Friday:

Agents of SHIELD has really found its groove the last few seasons. Season 4 honestly may have been its best yet. Ghost Rider was an excellent addition, and the life model decoys were a fantastic way to bring back Grant Ward and toy with everyone’s emotions. Too bad we won’t see Aida again (or will we?!).

So much can happen this season. I still have my fingers crossed for a Peter Quill cameo somehow. And when will Lance Hunter return?! And can he bring Bobbi with him even though she’s off on The Orville now? Please?

Will we see the return of Ghost Rider/Robbie Reyes? Will FitzSimmons ever be able to settle down without one of them getting sent across the cosmos? And will Nick Fury ever show his face again?

You have to think this will tie into Avengers: Infinity War somehow, right? Even if this show’s characters never cross over into the cinematic universe again, the cinematic universe still affects what happens in this show. While that might frustrate us at times, just remember how much better it made the show with that HYDRA twist.
