Star Wars: Daisy Ridley might not have an escape route

Daisy Ridley says she’s done with Star Wars. You know what we fans say to that? Nice try. No one is ever done with Star Wars.

Look, I love Daisy Ridley more than anyone but insinuating that she won’t be playing Rey after Episode IX is bonkers. Why? Because no one leaves Star Wars unless you die or your character dies. And even if you die, they’ll CGI you into it.

Harrison Ford tried. He went through the motions, complained enough about it and still, he couldn’t escape Star Wars. So why does Daisy think she can escape the everlasting hold this series has on actors? Truly no one escaped. Yes, they had fulfilling careers but they’re all still known as their Star Wars characters.

It is a franchise that can make an actor. If you’re an unknown, landing Star Wars is going to instantly thrust you into the limelight. It might not necessarily be a good thing, but still, your fame will be there, and you’ll need to be ready for whatever intergalactic war you need to fight.

The problem is that everyone is going to constantly remember you from Star Wars. Carrie Fisher was Princess Leia until the day she died and she embraced it.

Now, I’m not saying that Daisy Ridley isn’t grateful. I’m sure she is. But the fact that she think she’ll be done playing Rey after Star Wars Episode IX is almost laughable. In fact, it is naïve. You never leave Star Wars once you’re there. Chances are Harrison Ford isn’t even done, and his character is dead.

So will Daisy learn the hard way or is this just to get people excited about the next two movies? Who knows, but if it is just a marketing ploy, why? Do you really need to market for Star Wars? Like we’re all not going to rush out and see The Last Jedi and Episode IX.
