Should David Yates be replaced as the director for Fantastic Beasts?

David Yates had some pretty questionable statements this week. Does that mean he should lose directing the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel?

Look right now, David Yates isn’t exactly in the good graces of Harry Potter fans. But does that mean he should lose his right to direct the movie? I don’t think so. Look, I think his comments are disgraceful, especially because of the nature of this series.

But he just said some dumb things. He’s not the one being accused of everything, he’s just defending the accused. Do I think someone should make David Yates apologize and realize his stupidity? Yes. Because the fact that he said we basically shouldn’t believe Amber Heard because it was just one woman is outrageous.

I do think that he needs someone to sit him down and have a serious conversation with him though. He’s directing a series that has many different storylines centered around abuse. So why would he think it is okay to issue a statement like this?

If anything, I think he should have just not spoken at all. I get the want to comment on the happenings going on with your movie. Especially since so many were upset that Depp was still playing Grindelwald even with the public outrage. But maybe, if his idea is to just say “well Johnny Depp is really talented and it was only one woman”, he should just stay quiet.

I don’t mean to say we should silence someone and their opinion but at this point, it is doing more harm than good. Yes, we all love Harry Potter but for many, this may be the breaking point and they might not see the movie because of the association with Yates and Depp.

Next: David Yates, maybe just don’t say anything at all?

We’ll have to wait and see what happens though. Who knows, it could be fine.
