The dragons of Harry Potter: The misunderstood creatures we love to hate

Dragons are terrifying but the ones in Harry Potter have an interesting storyline. From Norbert to the Hungarian Horntail, we’re taking a look at them all.

The Hungarian Horntail haunted Harry Potter while he was in the Triwizard Tournament. But not all the dragons in the Harry Potter series were bad. Norbert was sweet and Hagrid loved him. The dragon that was trapped in Gringotts didn’t really do anything wrong, it was abused.

Which, when you look at it, is the case for a lot of the dragons we see. Like looking at the Horntail, it was just doing its job. The dragon was meant to protect the egg and Harry and the other champions had to take it from it.

How is that fair to the dragon? (It isn’t). But more than that, it is just a weird concept in the series. They use these animals against the main characters. They turn them into these terrible things when really, they’re just living and doing what they’re supposed to do.

It is like looking at a police dog as evil because he’s doing his job. We don’t do that so why look at these dragons that way? They’re just doing what their instincts tell them to do. And at the end of the day, that isn’t good for anyone. Especially the dragons or those who have to deal with them.

So maybe the next time we all jump to conclusions about dragons, we just take a second and realize that they’re not as bad as we make them out to be. Especially Norbert. He’s a real cutie when you look at him.
