Star Wars: A track-by-track love letter to Christmas in the Stars
“Merry, Merry Christmas”
Chewbacca puts on an invisibility costume and tickles a droid.
No, really. That happens in this song. Chewbacca has a weird relationship with the droids — he kisses one earlier, and now he’s tickling them. Trolling droids seems to be Chewbacca’s thing on this album (since it was presumably difficult for the sound engineers to get him to “sing”. Artoo at least whistles, but growls and roars don’t translate quite as well).
There is even a droid who indignantly says “I did not tickle you!” because the other droid doesn’t know who did the tickling.
Yes, droids are capable of being indignant and jerkish. It’s impressive, frankly.
(It’s Chewbacca’s form of helping, because it’s product testing! C-3PO signs him up in “Christmas in the Stars,” so see, it all makes sense in the end, as long as you don’t think about it too hard.)
Anyway, “Merry, Merry Christmas” is where all the droids who make toys get to sing about some of the things they’ve made, including the aforementioned costume (which is “very weird”), implore you to “eat a honeybun” or “entertain a Christmas guest” and make sure that you know that they want you to have a merry Christmas (or, presumably, whatever holiday you may be celebrating, but it’s the name of the song, so they keep it to Christmas).
This song also answers the question as to what you purchase a Wookiee when you can’t buy him a comb: a brush!
“Perfect,” intones one droid, and now you have a new riddle to tell at any and all holiday parties. (Warning: It is possible that no one will find this as funny as you do.)
