“The Meaning of Christmas”

Okay, let’s face it. There had to be one really, really syrupy sweet ’80s song on this album, and that would be this one, sending the entire album off in an eight-minute extravaganza. Basically, it’s a song about building emotional bonds with someone else as a Christmas gift, which picks up on the earlier thing about giving Chewbacca “love and understanding.”

Yes, there was actual thought put into this album, at least in this respect. Others, as I’ve already mentioned, not so much. There’s actually some pretty nice musicality in this song, by the way, especially towards the end where the “Christmas in the Stars” main line comes in, and then some very Star Wars-like percussion and brass leads into jingle bells. If nothing else, this is well-produced … even if S. Claus’ son can’t quite hold the long and high notes.

(Yes, Santa has a son in the Star Wars non-canon universe. It’s perfectly justified, thank you very much.)

At least Threepio wraps everything up by saying “And may the Force be with you always!” right before the chorus puts out one last big note. That’s some branding right there.

Now that we’ve walked through every single track of Christmas in the Stars, here’s hoping you appreciate a little more. It might not make it into your holiday rotation, but maybe, just maybe, you’ll listen to it on the way to seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi this season.
