Sometimes, Harry Potter doesn’t make much sense with its DADA teachers

In Harry Potter, the Defense Against the Dark Arts is a position that is, in all senses of the word, cursed. But remember how they said that no one kept it?

We all know that, in the Harry Potter series, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is pretty much doomed. But one Twitter user discovered that they seem to have forgotten the curse when it comes to Professor Quirrell.

Dana Schwartz pointed it out while watching the marathon. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Snape has apparently been after Quirrell’s job for quite sometime. And when you stop and think about it, that doesn’t make much sense.

The curse is simple. If you’re the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, you pretty much have one year in you. Whether it be your choice, a stupid decision, the Dark Lord himself, or death, you pretty much get one go at it. Except, apparently, for Quirrell.

Now look, here’s the thing, we only know about the positions after Quirrell right? Unless I’ve forgotten a line in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone where they specify this curse before, obviously, we see it pan out, maybe there wasn’t a curse prior to Harry’s first year.

Or if there was, maybe the line was meant to be like “Snape has been after that position for years” meaning that he just wants to be Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Either way, it is a plot hole that we can now focus on.

Why? Because there isn’t much Potter news and I miss the days when we were constantly speculating about this series.
