Walter White and Hank Schrader — Breaking Bad

More in-law trouble made more problematic by family members residing on opposite sides of the law. Walter White may be the danger, but Hank contributes his fair share of the legal predicament in which these two find themselves. Whatever you want to say about Walt, he was equal parts badass and awful human. He may have started with good intentions for his family, but as the show wound on, it became harder and harder to be on his side, and easier and easier to root against him.

Hank, on the other hand, was never really all that likable. He was Walter’s arrogant DEA brother-in-law, and audiences tolerated him as much for comedic relief as anything else. However, after he became Walt’s unknowing victim, the more we softened to Hank. He was shot at, used as bait for drug dealers, and became paralyzed in a face-off with drug dealers. You can draw a straight line right back to Walt for most of these traumas, but Hank never knew.

This feud remained one-sided, as Walt calculated more elaborate ways to hide who he was becoming from his family, including his wife. Audiences watched as Walt became more and more bold, and then we also got to witness Hank realize his brother-in-law was the big bad he’d been chasing all along.

Once Hank’s eyes were opened, the beef intensified. I don’t know about all the other Breaking Bad fans out there, but it was around this time that I began actively hoping Hank would catch him. He deserved some sort of vindication after all that trouble Walt caused him.
