Jane Villanueva and Petra Solano — Jane the Virgin

These two women might not actually be related by blood, but their complicated familial connections are still just as hairy. A relation by law is often even more dramatic, and this family is an excellent example of having to deal with folks you hate because they’re related to folks you love. Neither Petra or Jane would have anything to do with each other if their situations didn’t force them to, so it can get extremely heated when they have to come together.

Jane and Petra are really only related through their children, all of which share the same father, Rafael. Because their children are siblings, Jane and Petra have to swallow their feelings of jealousy, annoyance, and exasperation to get along. This only keeps for so long, and these feelings bubble up every once in awhile.

These two women are so different, and they have such different values, they’re bound to explode all over one another sometimes. Most often, their feuds center on what they think Rafael should do. Petra always defaults to the most sinister and dishonest plan, while Jane always, always takes the moral high ground. Both women can be insufferable at times, and poor Rafael always gets caught in the middle.

Most notably, the two’s differences erupted into an actual, physical altercation, in which Petra tried to flee as Jane gives chase. If this moment wasn’t so downright absurd, and therefore hilarious, one might have to wonder how much psychological trauma these two mothers are inflicting on their children, who watched the whole thing play out.
