Tyrion and Cersei Lannister — Game of Thrones

Lest you forget, Cersei has two brothers. Sure, it’s easy to focus on the steamy (albeit incestuous) relationship between Cersei and Jamie, but there is intensity of a different kind between her and Tyrion. Even before they were on opposite sides of the Iron Throne, there’s been contention between these two, and it’s mostly because she’s a selfish, power-hungry jerk.

Long before Cersei and Tyrion were fighting on opposite sides, she had beef with his general existence. She tried to murder him in his crib when he was just a baby, and she’s been antagonizing him ever since. She was always very disapproving of his lifestyle, his relationship with Jamie, and his inherent wisdom and forgiveness. Tyrion is mostly a good man, despite the drinking and prostitutes, and Cersei apparently finds this wildly repugnant. Even as children she coveted the time and attention he was afforded.

Now that they are all grown up, Cersei’s hatred hasn’t dulled. It doesn’t help that she thought he murdered her son and that he buddied up with her sworn politically enemy. His allegiance to her nemesis only makes the feud all the more acute. Cersei will probably never, ever be able to reconcile her feelings of resentment toward Tyrion, but just might have to get used to bending the knee. By the time this family feud plays all the way out, the Seven Kingdoms could look very, very different. Cersei might just have to come to terms with her second favorite brother if she wants to make it in the world.
