Al and Peg Bundy — Married … with Children
Ain’t no family feud like a married couple feud. Things can get ugly really quickly, since that is the person who knows you the best and knows exactly what buttons to push. Peg and Al Bundy mostly fight about their lack of a bedroom life, and Al’s dim-witted schemes that inevitably go wrong.
Peggy, Al’s wife and main antagonist, feels terribly neglected by her husband. As a former high school super star, Al feels like the direction of his life has plummeted into a sad, dreary existence. From big time football player to women’s shoe salesman, Al dumped a lot of his resentment on Peggy.
She didn’t offer Al a safe place for his feelings, either. She nagged, mocked, and constantly acted directly in opposition to his wants in desires. Her incessant bickering and picking would drive any man insane, so its not surprise that Al wasn’t all that hot for her.
Their two children, Bud and Kelly, only added to the tension, and the kids often took sides in the feud agains one parent or another. In fact, the Bundy’s frequently enlisted outside allies to prop them up in their feuds. Their neighbors, the D’Arcys, became the go-to folks when either Al or Peggy needed a little back up.
You do have to hand it to Peg, however. She completely subverted gender roles by refusing to clean or cook, even while she demanded he have sex with her. Although, her perpetual carping worked against her in this regard, she never conceded any ground to Al.
Here’s hoping that these feuds have made your weekend seem a little better by comparison.
