Cheesecake — The Golden Girls
I am a firm, strident believer in eating your feelings, and that eating with friends will cure anything that’s wrong with you. The Golden Girls made this a constant ritual, pulling a chilled cheesecake from the fridge and gathering around their tiny table when things go wrong.
If nothing else goes right in my life, I want to wind up like Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia, living the best life imaginable. The combination of good friends, supportive circles and delicious baked goods sounds like the only way to spend your later years.
Some folks estimate the four friends ate close to 100 cheesecakes over the course of the show. That’s a lot of heart to hearts and spilled feelings. Sometimes, depending on how serious the issues are or how big the feelings get, the ladies will heap on some whipped cream or add a side of ice cream. If stuff goes completely insane, they will rummage through the cabinets to find just the right kind of toppings. It’s nothing for them to load up a cheesecake with cookies, hot fudge, gummy bears and anything that hasn’t gone out of date.
Of all the coping mechanisms that humans use, eating cheesecake might be the most reliable way to make yourself feel better. If not, then I don’t want to be healthy. Here’s a recipe for a Double Fudge Amaretto Ricotta Cheesecake for the ambitious chef.
