The TV shows

Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory

Channel: TBS

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. EST, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. EST, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. EST, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST, 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. EST

Why not pair your Thanksgiving feast with the artistic equivalent of comfort food? TBS has you covered on the sitcom front, filling its schedule with wall-to-wall past and current favorites (with an hour-long intermission for the decidedly more acerbic Search Party). Chances are that at least one of these comedies will satisfy your craving for laughter and hijinks.

South Park

Channel: Comedy Central

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 a.m. EST

Maybe you’re in the mood for a comedy with a more, well, audacious sensibility. In that case, hop over to Comedy Central, which will air South Park from morning to morning. Although consensus holds that Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s profane satire has, like fellow cartoon The Simpsons, passed its prime, the Thanksgiving Day marathon includes episodes from earlier years, including season 4’s “Helen Keller! The Musical” and “A Very Crappy Christmas”. And of course, there’s the holiday-themed “A History Channel Thanksgiving”.

Top Chef

Channel: Bravo

Time: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST

Like sitcoms, reality competition shows have a predictable rhythm that can be comforting. (Take it from someone who was practically addicted to American Idol at one point.) At their best, they blend the manufactured tension of watching narratives unfold with the genuine thrill of watching people excel. Needless to say, Bravo’s Top Chef makes for appropriate Thanksgiving viewing, turning food preparation into high drama. Bon appétit!
