The Movies

The Godfather Part I and II

Channel: AMC

Time: 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. EST, 5:30 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. EST

Maybe Francis Ford Coppola’s 1970s gangster epic is one of those classic films you never got around to watching. (Don’t worry, we won’t judge.) Or maybe it’s among your all-time favorites already. Either way, the saga of the Corleone clan and midcentury America is oddly fitting Thanksgiving viewing. After all, there’s nothing like another family’s dysfunction to make you appreciate your own.

Jurassic Park

Channel: TNT

Time: 12:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. EST

The original Jurassic Park trilogy has something for everyone. Children should be thrilled by the dinosaurs that still look remarkably realistic, while adults will appreciate the nostalgia and old-fashioned filmmaking. Besides, like nearly every Spielberg movie from a certain era, it’s secretly about family. Just be glad your family bonding doesn’t involve trips to an ill-conceived theme park that doubles as a metaphor for mankind’s hubris.

Gone with the Wind

Channel: Sundance

Time: 11:02 a.m., 4:03 p.m., 9:04 p.m.

Okay, this isn’t technically a marathon, since Sundance is just airing the same movie three times in a row. But at three-and-a-half hours in length, Gone with the Wind is practically a marathon by itself. To be sure, the glorified depiction of the antebellum South hasn’t aged well. But the sumptuous Technicolor visuals and fiery chemistry between stars Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are timeless.
