Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Say hello to a fresh shot of a newcomer

facebooktwitterreddit

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has kept some of its new characters more under wraps than others, but it seems that information is starting to surface.

While Star Wars: The Last Jedi has talked a lot about Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico, even to the point of giving her not one, but two Funko Pop! figures as part of the new line, and BB-9E has giant plushies (and a Funko Pop!), Benicio del Toro’s DJ has been a bit more of an unknown quality (even though he, too, has a Funko Pop!).

However, thanks to io9, it seems like Lucasfilm and Disney might be willing to show a little more of del Toro in character now — not much, not even a line, but something.

Check it out below.

io9 reports: that it’s the first footage of DJ we’ve ever seen, but Star Wars News Net counteracts that by saying we’ve seen DJ before — just not in the foreground. The article even has him circled in the shot in question!

As both outlets conclude, this is DJ on the First Order base. (Peep the stormtroopers.) This seems to suggest that DJ’s role might be bigger than we initially suspected; as SWNN reminds us, DJ was initially talked about in relation to Canto Bight, although even then, he was referred to as a slicer, so presumably he’s assisting Rose and Finn with the infiltration mission by helping them hack into the base or, more likely, into whatever it is they’re there for.

Why they’re there is still a mystery, unfortunately, but since we’ve already done the rescue mission this trilogy, it might be more to steal information, although that runs into the problem of overlapping with Rogue One.

Could this shot and further context make its way into the upcoming promised American teaser for The Last Jedi, already promised for a Nov. 30 Disney holiday special on ABC? Perhaps so. We’ll just have to watch and find out, won’t we?
